Short Biography
Fritz Hess wurde am 16. April 1919 als Sohn des Anstreichers Friedrich Hess und dessen Ehefrau Maria Hess geb. Brenneisen in Elberfeld bei Wuppertal geboren. Er besuchte die Volksschule bis zur achten Klasse 8und arbeitete danach als (Konstruktions-)Anstreicher. Er war verheiratet mit Gertrud Heß. Das Paar hatte einen Sohn, Walter.
Im Juli 1938 wurde er gemustert und zunächst zurückgestellt. Ein Jahr später, im Juli 1939, wurde er erneut gemustert und für tauglich befunden. Er wurde zum 31. August 1939 eingestellt und am 4. September 1939 vereidigt. Zunächst diente er in Schützenregimentern, bevor er 1942 zu einem Panzer-Grenadier-Regiment kam. Er wurde dort längere Zeit als Kradmelder eingesetzt.
Fritz Hess fiel als Obergefreiter im 7. Panzer Grenadier-Regiment Nr. 74 oder 64 am 9. September 1943 bei Bellizzi. Er starb, als ein Splitter ihn ins Herz traf. In Cava de´Tirreni/Salerno wurde er auf dem deutschen "Ehrenteil" des Gemeindefriedhofs erstbestattet. Heute ruht er auf der Kriegsgräberstätte Cassino in Block 8, Grab 657.
